# Monitoring view

In this page is possible to define a set of variables shown by default, when a user accesses the Monitoring view in [device detail page](https://admin-things5.gitbook.io/things5/device/manage-devices/device-detail-page).

"Working Time", "Peak Current", "Door status", "Cabinet probe", "Compressor status" used in example above are all **Machine variables**.

Machine variables are actually firmware properties, so you need to [create a firmware](https://admin-things5.gitbook.io/things5/device/manage-firmware/add) first and then create at least [one variable](https://admin-things5.gitbook.io/things5/device/manage-firmware/machine-variables).

### Select variables 

**Add new widget** or **trend** button will open a popup from where to choose the variable to add

### Set sorting order

Drag upwards or downwards from within the column to change variable position.
