# Variables Translations

Label, value, description or category translations of any machine variable

Translations are actually variables property, so you need first having created [machine variables](/things5/device/manage-firmware/machine-variables.md) to be able to manage their translations. 

## Access upload interface

To access the user interface to upload those translations, click on the firmware version to enter its details view\...

...than click on the **Translations** button present at the bottom right of every tab  (pic. below ref. 1) to enter the translation interface

## Add translations&#x20;

Variables translations can be imported **only as a csv file** via the **Import Translations** button *(pic. above pos A),* the CSV file you must contain the entire translations set that machine's firmware need

**Pay attention**: every import operation erases old translations set totally!

**Export Translations** will send translations as they are stored in Things5 in order to edit them as needed \
**Download precompiled template** instead will download translations as they are stored in Things5 **but** with placeholders in all the available fields. That means that the translation will have a label, description and two values presets (with generic data if necessary) even if they are not needed, in order to edit them as needed&#x20;
